Event Highlight | InnoPort CubicZine “Human Library” Talk Series — “Walking with Words: From Speech Therapy to Social Entrepreneurship” (11 December 2025)

Following its successful debut at Shaw College Assembly, CubicZine’s “Human Library” Talk Series continued its journey with its second stop on 11 December 2025 at TWGHs Lee Ching Dea Memorial College. Hosted by CUHK InnoPort, the event brought real-world knowledge into the classroom, encouraging junior secondary school students to dream big, think deeply, and explore how knowledge transfer can drive social impact.
The talk, titled “Walking with Words: From Speech Therapy to Social Entrepreneurship”, featured Professor Kathy Lee, Adjunct Associate Professor at CUHK’s Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. Professor Lee shared her learning journey, professional development and social innovation practices, offering students a deeply personal and inspiring perspective on her path from academia to social impact.
Through lively demonstrations and engaging multimedia examples, Professor Lee brought the world of speech therapy to life. Using visual and audio illustrations, she showed students how speech therapists work with individuals to address communication challenges and enhance confidence and self-expression. These stimulating, hands-on examples helped students gain a clearer understanding of the profession and its human significance.
Adding an interactive layer, InnoPort invited Unplugged Studio, a CUHK student game team, to design on-site games that “gamified” the concept of speech therapy. These engaging activities allowed students to experience — through teamwork and play — how communication fosters understanding and empathy.
For many F.1 to F.3 students, this was their first exposure to speech therapy as a profession. The talk provided valuable insights into the educational pathways, required skills and personal attributes involved in pursuing such a career. Beyond professional knowledge, it also inspired secondary students to reflect on broader career planning — encouraging them to align personal strengths and passions with meaningful contributions to society.
InnoPort looks forward to future “Human Library” collaborations with other CUHK colleges and local schools. Stay tuned!
