On July 16, the “Publishing 3.0+ –HK Smart e-Book Hub “Launch Ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wanchai, as part of the Hong Kong Book Fair 2025. The ceremony was officiated by Miss. Rosanna LAW, JP, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, who delivered the opening address. The ceremony featured distinguished speakers including Hon. Kenneth FOK, BBS, JP, Chairman of “Publishing 3.0+”, and Hon. The event attracted notable international participation, with representatives from copyright associations across the UAE, Singapore, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Japan attending to witness this pivotal moment for Hong Kong’s publishing sector.

The current “Publishing 3.0+” initiative will comprehensively enhance the application of artificial intelligence by integrating technologies from the Hong Kong Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre (LSCM) and CUHK-bred AI unicorn SenseTime Group Limited. This initiative aims to improve content conversion and translation capabilities to help the industry expand into the Belt and Road and other overseas markets. Our office’s new publication, 《「學人」搞社創2.0》, was invited to participate in the project by tagging the AI techniques’ text-to-speech translation function.

Miss. Rosanna LAW outlined the plans for developing large language models to strengthen multilingual translation and content conversion capabilities, further enhancing the quality of e-books and audiobooks. The initiative aims to showcase 10,000 e-books and audiobooks at international book fairs within the coming months, demonstrating Hong Kong’s expanded digital publishing capacity.

The “Publishing 3.0+” launch ceremony represents a transformative moment for Hong Kong’s creative industries, demonstrating the successful integration of cutting-edge technology with traditional publishing practices. Through strategic international partnerships, comprehensive AI implementation, and ambitious expansion goals, this initiative positions Hong Kong as a global leader in digital publishing innovation while preserving and promoting cultural exchange across diverse linguistic communities.
