The week of January 19, 2026, marked a significant milestone for the Hong Kong innovation ecosystem as the Hong Kong Techathon+ 10th Edition concluded with resounding success. CUHK’s young innovators showcased exceptional talent, securing multiple top honors and strengthening international academic-industry ties.
Kick-off: Hong Kong Techathon+ 10th Edition
The festivities commenced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP). The opening ceremony was officiated by a distinguished panel of guests from the ecosystem, including:
- Hon Duncan Chiu, Member of the Legislative Council (Functional Constituency, Technology and Innovation).
- Mr. Terry Wong, Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation
- Hon Prof. William Wong Kam-fai, MH, Professor of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, CUHK.
- Mr. Kelvin Wong, Deputy Director of the Knowledge Transfer Office, CUHK.
The event united representatives from HKSTP and leading universities, both locally and globally, setting the stage for an energetic competition focused on cross-disciplinary technology solutions.
Global Collaboration: GUIN Forum 2026
On Friday, January 23, 2026, the Global University Innovation Network (GUIN) Forum 2026 was held. Prof. Allen Chan Kwan Chee, Associate Vice-President, represented CUHK as an institutional member, with Mr. Kelvin Wong serving as a panelist to explore challenges and strategies to foster and promote global university-industry technology transfer collaborations. The forum served as a premier platform for global entrepreneurship and university–industry collaboration.
With over 30 institutional members, GUIN serves as a premier platform for fostering global entrepreneurship and strengthening university–industry partnerships. The forum featured insightful keynote speeches and engaging panel sessions, encouraging meaningful dialogue and reinforcing the collaborative framework of the international innovation community.
Awards Presentation Ceremony
The week culminated in the Awards Presentation Ceremony on Saturday, January 24, 2026. CUHK’s young entrepreneurs achieved remarkable success, securing a total of six awards across the Open, Student, and Tech FYP categories. The winning teams were recognized in different critical technology domains.
These accolades underscore CUHK’s commitment to nurturing future-ready talent and driving impactful research from the lab to the marketplace.
