On 29 September 2026, CUHK InnoPort, in collaboration with Dotof AI, successfully hosted the second session of the “初創聚一聚 (Startup Meetup) @ InnoPort” series. Themed “Building the Future Through Talent”, the event gathered startup founders, human resources professionals, students, entrepreneurs, alumni and innovation practitioners for an evening of conversations on talent, leadership and organisational growth.  The fireside chat featured three guest speakers, including Mr. Jackson Fok, Director and Head of Content Operations at Nex; Mr. Raymond Yang, Co-Founder and Executive Director of JUST FEEL; and Mr. Lurlee Leung, Head of Talent Development at Nan Fung Group. Moderated by Ms. Caridee Wong, Co-Founder and CEO of Dotof AI, the discussion provided a cross-sector perspective on talent acquisition, team development and organisational culture.  Drawing on perspectives from the start-up, non-profit and corporate sectors, the conversation offered practical insights into how organisations can build strong teams and values-driven cultures at different stages of growth. From empowering individuals and cultivating ownership to attracting, developing and retaining talent, the discussion helped participants better understand how adaptable leadership and a supportive workplace can enable people and organisations to thrive amid evolving challenges.  The fireside chat was followed by an interactive networking session, where participants exchanged ideas and experiences across disciplines and sectors. The session commenced with a presentation by Dr. Eric LEUNG, Associate Director of CUHK KTO, who introduced KTO’s role in supporting researchers throughout the commercialisation journey. He highlighted the office’s services in intellectual property protection, industry collaboration, licensing, and start-up support, while sharing experiences in facilitating the translation of university innovations into societal and economic benefits. Participants also gained valuable insights from Mr. Ricardo LEE, Founding Partner Lawyer of Ricardo Lee & Associates Law Office, who shared his perspectives on the global patenting trend of generative AI and its implications for research and commercialisation. The presentation examined the rapid development of AI technologies and discussed emerging opportunities and challenges for innovators in the evolving technology landscape. The session further featured Mr. Wang Haijin, General Manager of the Sci-Tech Innovation Service Department of China Resources Intellectual Property Co., Ltd., who introduced the regulatory framework and practical considerations for using university-patented technologies as equity contributions in China. His sharing provided participants with an overview of relevant policies and successful practices that support the commercialisation of research assets through technology-based enterprises. It marked the second Venture Connect session. The programme opened with remarks by Mr. Eric Or, Chief Ecosystem Development Officer, HKSTP, who spoke on the importance of connections among innovators, industry partners, and investors. This was followed by welcome remarks from Prof. Allen Chan, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer), CUHK, who highlighted CUHK’s efforts in research translation and entrepreneurship. The event also featured an investor sharing session by Mr. Tony Tung, Associate Director, Co-Acceleration, HKSTP. He shared insights into the current state of artificial intelligence using the technology hype cycle as a reference framework and discussed factors that investors consider when evaluating technology start-ups. A highlight of the event was the pitching session, where eight CUHK-affiliated start-ups presented their technologies and business propositions to investors and industry representatives. The presentations covered applications in elderly care, agentic AI, medical robotics, construction robotics, autonomous robotic systems, and sensor-integrated textiles. As Hong Kong’s flagship annual sustainability event, ReThink HK 2026 convened over 6,500 business leaders, government officials, academics, and NGO representatives to foster cross-sector collaboration and accelerate the city’s transition toward a climate-resilient, low-carbon economy. At this year’s exhibition, CUHK was represented by six startup teams showcasing pioneering green technologies and environmental protection strategies.
