The 16th International Invention Fair of the Middle East (IIFME) was organized from the 8th – 11st of February 2026 by Kuwait Science Club under the Patronage of His Highness, the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and in collaboration the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), UNESCO, and the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.
This year, CUHK’s innovation projects have achieved remarkable results at the 16th International Invention Fair in the Middle East (IIFME), taking home ten accolades for four projects and scooping the event’s Grand Prize. These included four Gold Medals with the Congratulations of the Jury. Additionally, the four CUHK innovations received six special prizes: one Grand Prize, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) National Award for Inventors, the Prize of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), the Special Prize Awarded by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and two Prizes of the Iranian Delegation (FIRI Awards). This remarkable achievement highlights the University’s powerful research capabilities and commitment to innovation on the global stage.
The award-winning projects were contributed by research teams from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering, covering a wide range of disciplines. The award-winning innovations were all developed by CUHK startups, a testament to the strength of the University’s signature startup ecosystem. This reflects the University’s diverse academic strengths and its leadership in driving technological progress to foster that ecosystem. (Please refer to the appendix for project details)

On 13 February 2026, the CUbicZine “Human Library” Talk Series made its latest stop at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, United College, with a session titled “One Bite at a Time: Building the Dream of a Community.” As part of CUHK InnoPort’s story-driven dialogue series linking students with entrepreneurs and innovators, the event brought together approximately 1,500 United College students to explore how design and architecture can transform everyday spaces into platforms for community connection and impact.
The talk featured Ms. Sarah Mui, co-founder of One Bite Design Studio and CUHK Architecture alumna, who shared her journey from architectural practice to community design and social entrepreneurship. By walking students through projects such as revitalized public spaces in housing estates and playful rooftops, she highlighted how listening to residents, co-creating with different stakeholders, and testing ideas “one bite at a time” can turn overlooked corners of the city into inclusive, welcoming places.
In the dialogue that followed, Sarah unpacked how the name “One Bite” embodies her belief that meaningful change starts with small, tangible steps. She also shared how One Bite Design Studio and One Bite Social integrate spatial innovation, business strategy, and community engagement, distinguishing themselves from traditional firms. Reflecting on her early entrepreneurial hurdles, Sarah emphasized how empathy, experimentation and resilience drive purpose‑driven design and sustainable social impact.
The engaging session left students inspired to look at their surroundings with new eyes, discovering how thoughtful design can cultivate belonging and optimism in urban life.
InnoPort looks forward to continuing the CUbicZine “Human Library” Talk Series across CUHK’s colleges, nurturing a new generation of entrepreneurs who build ideas from the heart and turn vision into community impact.
